  • If you also use the Silhouette program, make sure that you don't have it open and connected to the cutter. Only one program can 'communicate' with the cutter and if the Silhouette program has control, MTC will not be able to connect to it.
Also make sure that the port that is showing shows as USB on your computer. Sometimes it loses the correct port. Does your computer 'ding' when you plugin the cutter signaling that it recognizes you have plugged something into the USB port? If not, there may be something wrong with one of the ports on the cutter or the computer. Have you tried plugging something different into the USB ports on your computer? Have you tried the cutter with another computer to see if it will recognize it? Sometimes USB ports on the cutter or a computer can go bad as can a cord. Make sure if you have both USB 2 and 3 ports on your computer that you have the correct USB cord for that port.
Just some ideas for you to think about and process as to what could cause your issue.

  • You may want to try another USB cord. I had problems with my portrait until I change my USB cord and then it worked.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I had to go buy a new cord and use a different USB port and it finally works. I didn't know cords go go bad, but they can. So much aggravation for such a simple thing.
  • Yes, like anything, cords go bad too. Glad you got it resolved.

  • @Laura Fremont - yes cords can go bad, especially if you roll over them with the wheels on a computer chair..or the cat chews them..or they have been used forever and a day. The metal in the wires inside eventually become worn out.
Still using MTC but slowly migrating to SCAL. KNK cutters including the Force and Maxx Air continue to be my favourites. Fluent in other cutter languages.
