Microsoft Planner is a task management application for teams. It is an online subscription service offered as part of Office 365. Users can quickly create new plans in a Kanban-board type workspace. Then, they can create tasks as cards, assign them to team members, and organize them into buckets or columns. It is an easy way to get organized, and to collaborate across platforms.
Features, Benefits, Product Strengths
- Easy-to-use Work Management – Microsoft Planner is available to people with an Office 365 work or school subscription. It is easy to start a new plan. They can name it, choose who can see it (public or private), and add descriptions. After the plan is created, they can quickly add tasks to the To-do list or bucket. A task can have plenty of details, such as a person assigned to do the task, a checklist, files, photos, or links, team discussions, start and due dates, progress, preview picture, and label. Then, users can add more buckets and sort the tasks to these different buckets for organization. Organization can be according to work phases, types of work, department, or others. They can add members to the plan to assign the tasks to them. To move the tasks to different buckets, they can just drag and drop them.
- Collaborative Task Management – The task management application includes a My Tasks view that provides a list of all the user’s tasks and their status across plans. Teams know who is working on what due to the built-in visibility and transparency function. Team members can read and respond to comments in the task, in Outlook, Outlook Groups, Teams, and more. They can also attach files, schedule events in the calendar, and capture and organize meeting notes. Guest access is now available to let teams collaborate with people outside their organization.
- Cross-platform, Progress Tracking, Schedule View, Group and Filter, and more – Microsoft Planner works across devices, such as desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. Aside from the Board view, it also has a Charts view that provides a quick and colorful overview of the plan’s progress. They can further use Group by and Filter options to see, for example, which tasks are running late. Users can also see who is overloaded. A Schedule view is a calendar view where users can review deadlines, check project status, and re-schedule tasks via drag-and-drop. They can also receive email notifications and mobile app notifications to stay informed.
