What's new in macOS Catalina:

After macOS reinstalls, it should restart and end up at the login screen; I booted up while holding the Option key and chose my regular MacinstoshHD (not an update volume). Then I booted. May 18, 2019  I am currently running Xcode 10.1, the Mac AppStore lists Xcode 10.2 but it only gives me the option to open Xcode. Under compatibility it says 'Works with this Mac Pro'. My environment is a clean install from about 2 months ago. How can I force the AppStore to upgrade Xcode.

How to download and install macOS updates

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen.

  4. Click Update Now next to the macOS update.

    • Your Mac will need to restart after the download has been installed, so make sure you save your progress for any program you are currently working in.

How to turn on automatic updates

You don't have to manually update macOS every time a new one launches. You can turn on automatic updates and it will download in the background.

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen.
  2. Select System Preferences from the drop-down menu.

  3. Click Software Update.
  4. Tick the box for Automatically keep my Mac up to date.
